street food brand
Kochchi started in 2020 with a converted rice horse box, a queue that wouldn't stop and food that people in Scotland had never tasted before
Festival crowds queued for it. Audiences travelled across cities to try it. Film crews from Batgirl and Good Omens called it in. Awards followed. And through it all, the food never changed — bold, honest and rooted in where it came from.
Founded by Shehan Fernando and Suki Jayaratne, Kochchi was built on a simple belief: that Sri Lankan food deserved to be known, properly, in Scotland. Not a curry house. Not a watered-down version. The real thing.
Now entering its restaurant chapter, Kochchi brings the full spectrum of Sri Lankan cuisine to Glasgow's West End and Edinburgh's St James Quarter - street flavours, heritage dishes and coastal feasts, all through the lens of Colombo.

Sri Lanka is an island of many worlds and its food tells that story. Centuries of Portuguese, Dutch and British influences layered onto the traditions of communities who call the island home. At the centre of it all is Colombo, a true melting pot where Sinhalese kitchens, Ceylon Moor biryani houses, Jaffna Tamil curry kitchens and fiery Malay sambols all live side by side. Kotthu stalls clatter like drums. Hoppers steam under neon lights. Kochchi brings that spirit to life in Scotland. Every dish, every flavour, every plate is rooted in that Colombo.
